I am thrilled to welcome to Paola’s Studiolo my own professor from graduate-school days, Jonathan Nelson. He is Teaching Professor at Syracuse University, Florence; Research Associate at the Kennedy School of Harvard University; and co-editor of the “Elements in Renaissance” series of Cambridge University Press. His latest book, Filippino Lippi: An Abundance of Invention, is the first monograph on this artist in a generation, and the first study in English in over 80 years. He presents a new understanding of the Renaissance master-artist, highly celebrated by Vasari and then forgotten for centuries. In the spirt of the holiday season, our esteemed guest, considered a leading expert on Filippino Lippi and his work, will discuss many beautiful paintings, including his famed Nativity and the Adoration of the Magi, 1496.
